It’s every running enthusiast’s favorite holiday. It’s National Running Day, a coast to coast celebration for runners everywhere to celebrate their passion for the sport and for new runners to take their first step (stride) towards this popular activity.

“It’s the perfect way for longtime runners to reaffirm their love of running and for beginners to kick off a lifetime and life-changing commitment.”

National Running Day Website

National Running day is held annually on the first Wednesday in June. It all started in 2009, the country’s foremost running organizations from major U.S. cities. Among its organizers are the New York Road Runners, Boston Athletic Association, Running USA, and USA Track & Field. They wanted to make a day to promote running as a healthy, fun, easy, and accesible form of exercise.  It’s a day that allows longtime and beginner runners alike to celebrate the sport and build connection and community between fellow runners of all ages and abilities, as well as attracts new participants. Runners are encouraged to go for a run, encouarage a friend to run, sign up for a new race, or set up a running resolution.
