An expectant Canadian couple turn to an unusual place to get help in naming their unborn baby.
Soon to be father, Stephen McLaughlin launched a website called namemydaughter.com to allow people to vote on what he and his wife will ultimately name their daughter, who is expected in early April.
Hi, My name is Stephen and much to the disbelief of my wife, I have decided to let the internet name* my daughter.
Yeah that is an asterisk, Unfortunately internet I know better than to trust you. We will ultimately be making the final decision, Alas my daughter shall not be named WackyTaco692. Sorry guys the wife wouldn’t go for a free for all.
McLaughlin said that he was sitting on the end of his bed after coming home from work one day when the idea hit him.
After he told his wife what he was going to do, she was on board just as much as he was.
“She was supportive right from the start. I think, at first, she didn’t think I was actually going to do it. But once the domain was registered, she knew it was real,” he said.
Of the over eighty-thousand votes the top current name is Cthulhu All-Spark. Other top first namers include Amelia, Megatron, !(Yes an exclamation point!) Zelda, and Streetlamp. Rose, Moonshine, Mae, and Salad are some of the contenders for middle names. But as the website stated the Mclaughlin’s will ultimately be making the final decision, so don’t hold your hopes for baby girl Pancake Rainbow Dash.
McLaughlin said that “I can’t wait to hold her in my arms for the first time. And eventually tell her this crazy story.”
